“Human eats Burger; Burger eats Them”

‘Food’ a well-defined word; which have a plenty of definitions to reveal its flavor and aroma, some people eat to live while others live to eat, for some it’s a source of survival and for some food itself is life. Like life is incomplete without music, similarly this world is incomplete without food lovers; our world is infatuated by taste, aroma, and flavor. In other words, food makes us who we are.

In some corner of our the world, a lack of access to food is the tragedy, but in some countries like India and US, unhealthy eating is sited as the second most threat to human life after smoking, in short people are becoming more addicted to junk and fast food, which shortening their life span. Food is something that everyone needs every day and how it is produced; processed and marketed are the few important issues, which can have an immense effect on our health.

Fast food culture is an emerging trend among the younger generation. The ready availability, taste,
low cost and flavor makes them popular among amateurs and teenagers. Even though most of people knows that fast food isn’t a healthy choice, but still the fast food consumption continues to escalate.

In the year 1916 in Unites States, the first fast food restaurant established, which generally credited with the opening of the second fast food outlet and first hamburger chain: McDonald’s and KFC; are multinational corporations with outlets across the globe. Interestingly, US have the largest fast food industry in the world.

While in India, the fast food industry has grown with the changing lifestyles of the young Indian population. In India alone the fast food industry is growing by 41% per year and as per the survey report almost 61% of Indian population is consuming processed foods and among them 5-35 years age group is most common.

Food that we take today has changed more in the past 30 years as compared to past 300 years. With this change in food style the journey to grave also shortened; lifespan. The variation in the Indian food trends separated its people from their age old healthy lifestyle.

Fast food companies desperately hiding the information regarding ‘how their food was made?’ Because of the growing popularity and demand of fast food chains, causing the industries to raise production unnaturally, that is, by injecting hormones, antibiotics and arsenic; to help them grow faster. The fast foods subsist with refined sugars and hydrogenated fats, it is also very high in sodium, carbohydrates, and very low in dietary fiber and essential vitamins and minerals, which is enough to kill appetite in human body.

According to the study of Indian Society of Gastroenterology: more than 8.3% of the Indian population suffers from stomach problem, obesity, cancer and heart disease risk, organs improper functions, depression, decline in memory and cognitive function, fluctuation in the blood pressure and sugar level because of constantly eating junk foods.

Most importantly it badly affecting the younger generation of our country, it causing the irregular menstruation cycle among girls, boys are reaching the stage of maturity before their age because of the unnatural growth of hormones. It is very mournful say that the current generation of children may be the first with a shorten life expectancy than their parents.

There is no denying on the fact that fast food is quick, convenient and tasty but we also can’t ignore the risk that it has on our health and our country’s future. Let food be our medicine rather than making medicine as our future food.
